ABOUT US

Our Mission

To provide a safe, inclusive space where young people and adults can connect through their love of tabletop gaming.

A Bit More Detail

GUILD OF GAMING was founded out of a passion for creating an inclusive, affordable space where young people can connect through their love of gaming. Our club founder witnessed first-hand how engaging with tabletop games could transform lives, offering not just a creative outlet but also a safe, structured environment for those who may feel isolated or struggle socially. He felt strongly that Dumfries and Galloway needed a club like this—one that fosters positivity, community, and personal growth for all.

At GUILD OF GAMING, we offer support and opportunities for young people up to the age of 25 to explore games like Warhammer, Dungeons and Dragons, and more. But we also welcome older members, provided they understand that the primary mission of the club is to support and mentor younger players as they engage in the hobby. Our goal is to create a safe, welcoming space for everyone, regardless of age or background.

Whether you’re new to gaming or a seasoned player, GUILD OF GAMING is here to provide a supportive, inclusive environment where everyone can thrive.

Our Funding

National Lottery Community Fund

GUILD OF GAMING is proudly funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, which enables us to offer free membership and provide essential resources to our members. This funding allows us to cover the costs of our venue at Noblehill Community Centre, purchase gaming equipment, and maintain a fully stocked hobby table with communal paints, brushes, and tools. This helps ensure that GUILD OF GAMING is accessible to everyone, helping us tackle social isolation and promote mental well-being across the community. We are deeply grateful to the National Lottery players for making this possible, and we’re committed to using these funds to foster a positive, supportive gaming environment for all.

We are also thrilled to be sponsored by Gamemat.eu, who have generously supported us with a significant discount on high-quality gaming mats and pre-painted resin terrain. Thanks to their support, we’ve been able to create an immersive gaming experience for our members. As an added bonus, Gamemat.eu offers a 10% discount to all GUILD OF GAMING members! Ask one of our volunteers for the exclusive code to take advantage of this fantastic offer.

Our Partners

Youth Scotland

These are national SQA-accredited qualifications recognising young members' personal development through their hobby. They range from SCQF 2 to SCQF 7 — equivalent of Nat 2 to Advance Higher. Some of these awards even accrue UCAS tariff points for applying to university.

Our Team

Danny Bennet
Founder and President

Hey, I’m Danny. I’m a teacher and Trauma Informed Practice Lead, with years of experience working with children who have additional support needs, including those in residential care.

Throughout my career, I’ve used tabletop gaming as a powerful tool to help young people develop confidence, build social skills, and foster creativity. Seeing how games like Warhammer and Dungeons & Dragons can transform lives inspired me to create Guild of Gaming—a safe, inclusive space where young people and adults alike can come together, connect, and thrive through their love of gaming.

As the club’s founder, I’m passionate about making tabletop gaming accessible to everyone, especially those from marginalised backgrounds. I’m committed to ensuring Guild of Gaming is a welcoming, supportive community where members can explore new hobbies, make friends, and feel a true sense of belonging.

When I’m not running the club or teaching, you’ll likely find me painting miniatures, crafting terrain, or planning the next big gaming adventure!

Ask Me About: Warhammer 40,000, Star Trek, teaching, and Lord of the Rings!

Hi, I’m Tom, one of Guild of Gaming’s under-25 committee members. I’ve been a passionate tabletop gamer for years, and I love immersing myself in the lore and strategies of Warhammer 40,000, where I field Salamanders and Votann armies. On the fantasy side, I bring the chaos with my Skaven in Age of Sigmar.

When I’m not rolling dice, you’ll probably find me diving into online games like Marvel’s Rivals or exploring the deep lore that makes these games so captivating.

As a committee member, I’m especially focused on helping other young people in our community access tabletop gaming. Whether you’re new to the hobby or looking for someone to geek out with about Warhammer lore, I’m here to help you feel right at home.

Scott Mair
Treasurer

Hi, I’m Scott, the Treasurer here at Guild of Gaming. By day, I’m a self-employed forklift driver, but in my spare time, I’m all about tabletop gaming. I’ve been a hobbyist for years, and I love getting stuck into everything from skirmish games like Warcry to building epic armies.

I’m also a dad of two, and when I’m not busy gaming, you’ll probably find me playing PC games, running around at airsoft, or—let’s be honest—finding any excuse to put on my suit of armour!

I’m excited to help Guild of Gaming grow and can’t wait to see our community thrive. Whether you’re new to the hobby or a seasoned pro, there’s always something to learn and share.

Ask Me About: Warcry, Sonic, Power Rangers, and Pokémon!

Hi, I’m Amber, and I’m the Volunteer Coordinator for Guild of Gaming. I’m passionate about creating a welcoming and safe space for everyone, especially women and girls, to explore the wonderful world of tabletop gaming. There’s nothing better than seeing someone new to the hobby light up with excitement as they discover all it has to offer!

In Warhammer 40,000, I command the cunning and dangerous Drukhari, while in Age of Sigmar, I take root with the beautiful and mysterious Sylvaneth. I also love painting and building my ever-growing collection and diving into online games when I have the chance.

My role involves encouraging others to join the hobby and supporting our amazing volunteers, ensuring Guild of Gaming is a space where everyone can feel at home.

Ask Me About: Warhammer, board games, cooking, and baking!

Alastair Johnstone
Resource Co-ordinator

Hi, I’m Alastair, though most people call me Badgie! As the Resource Manager for Guild of Gaming, I’m the one keeping track of all the club’s resources. Whether it’s making sure our board games are in great condition, restocking supplies, or ensuring everything arrives and is replaced as needed, I’ve got it covered. If you’re looking to borrow a club item or take home a board game from our collection, I’m your guy!

I’m currently working on an Imperial Guard army for Warhammer 40,000, but my true passion lies with Blood Bowl. I’ve even run competitive Blood Bowl events in the past! When I’m not organising resources or rolling dice, you’ll probably find me enjoying some historical wargaming or diving into a new board game.

I’m here to make sure Guild of Gaming’s resources are always ready for you to enjoy—so don’t hesitate to ask if there’s something you need.
